Urgent Shabbat and Yom Tov Hospital Transportation
Please consult your Rabbi for the precise halachic parameters
We are pleased to offer Ten Yad’s Urgent Shabbat and Yom Tov Hospital Transportation service through the generosity of the Szirtes family at Ottawa’s Westway Taxi. In urgent situations occurring on Shabbat or Jewish holidays, individuals may call Westway Taxi for transportation to and from the hospital. This service is intended for individuals who are in situations where there is no immediate or acute medical risk to life. In case of any doubt, individuals are urged to contact 911 Emergency Services.
When accessing this service, Westway Taxi drivers will open and close the car doors for all passengers when they enter or exit the vehicle. The driver will also carry any bags from the patient’s home to the vehicle, and from the vehicle into the hospital building. The driver will be advised by the dispatcher that the taxi fare will be reconciled through Westway Taxi and the passenger should not be asked for payment.
To utilize this service on Shabbat or Yom Tov, call Westway Taxi’s 24-hour dispatch (613-727-0101) and advise the dispatcher that you are calling for a “Code 613 service”.
ALERT: The Call Centre has now been outsourced to the Philippines and although the Call Centre has been briefed regarding “Code 613”, there may be some confusion with regard to this service. In the unlikely event that this happens, please ask to be put through to the Westway dispatcher directly.
Ten Yad welcomes all feedback. Please keep us informed so we can so we can ensure that this very important service runs smoothly.
